What to Film at an Event: A Simple Shot List for Concerts

Film the crowd, the stage, three short clips of the main act, one detail shot and one clip of you or your team at the event.

Published 2026-09-28

At an event, film five things: the crowd, the stage or main area, three short clips of the main act, one close detail, and one clip of you or your team. That is enough for a short vertical video. You do not need a professional camera or a long list of shots. A phone in your pocket and five minutes of filming will do.

This is a realistic plan for a small business, a band or a team at a concert or festival.

Start with the place, not the stage

Before the main act starts, film the place itself. Stand still for five seconds and film the entrance, the queue or the sign with the event name. This gives your video a clear beginning. It also tells the viewer where you are without any text.

Then film the crowd from behind. Hold the phone at chest height and pan slowly from left to right. Do not zoom. A slow pan looks calm and shows the size of the event. One clip of ten seconds is enough.

Three clips of the main act

When the main act is on stage, film three short clips. Each clip should be five to ten seconds. Do not film the whole song.

  • Clip one: a wide shot of the whole stage. - Clip two: a medium shot of the singer or the main person. - Clip three: a shot of the crowd reacting, hands up or people singing. Keep your phone steady. Rest your elbows on a barrier or hold the phone with both hands. Short clips are easier to use later than one long video.

One detail shot and one shot of your team

A detail shot makes the video feel real. Film a ticket, a wristband, a drink, a light or a speaker. Hold the phone close and keep it still for three seconds.

Then film your team. Three people is enough. Ask one person to film the other two talking, laughing or walking. Do not ask them to look at the camera and wave. A natural moment is better than a posed one. If you are alone, film your own hand with the ticket or your feet on the grass.

A five-minute plan for three people

If three people film together, split the work. This keeps it simple and fast.

  • Person one: film the place and the crowd. - Person two: film the three clips of the main act. - Person three: film the detail shot and the team. - Everyone: film only short clips, five to ten seconds each. - Everyone: hold the phone steady and do not zoom. - Everyone: film vertical, not horizontal. - After five minutes, stop and check that you have enough clips. This plan works for a concert, a festival, a market or a company party. The shots are the same.

What not to film

Do not film long videos of one song. Do not film in the dark without any light. Do not film people who do not want to be filmed. Do not use flash during the show. These rules keep your footage usable.

If the light is very low, film the stage lights and the crowd instead of faces. A silhouette still looks good in a short video.

From phone clips to a short video

You now have your short clips. Open Relsko and upload them. The assistant asks you at most a couple of questions and proposes three concepts. You pick one concept. Relsko then makes three cut variants of that one concept. You download the one you like.

Relsko uses only your own footage. It never adds stock footage or scenes you did not film. The export is vertical, 1080x1920, ready for Instagram Reels, TikTok or YouTube Shorts. Animated captions are in beta. Publishing to social networks, dubbing and multi-client workspaces are in preparation.

You can register for 30 days of full access without a card. Invitations extend that time. After that, there is a free level with a small watermark. You can upload up to 50 files at once, 200 per project, and each file can be up to 2 GB. Video length is 10 to 35 seconds.

Next step

Upload your clips to Relsko, answer the short questions, choose one of the three concepts and download one of the three cut variants. If you film the five shots above, you already have everything you need.

In short: Film the place, the crowd, three short clips of the main act, one detail and one shot of your team. That is a full short video.

Questions people ask next

How many clips do I need for one short video?
A handful of short clips are enough. Each clip should be five to ten seconds long. More clips give you more choice, but you do not need to film the whole event.
Can I film at a concert with my phone?
Yes. Keep it steady and do not zoom. Film the stage lights and the crowd when faces are too dark. Always follow the rules of the venue.
What if I am at the event alone?
Film the place, the crowd, the main act and one detail shot. For the team shot, film your own hand, your ticket or your feet. You can still make a complete short video from these clips.
